Sports school opens for serious fun

An exciting new sports school that gives young people aged between 6 and 16 the opportunity to progress and develop in sporting activities and as individuals, has opened in Rickmansworth, Herts.

Jacqueline McDonnell open her school in September and is SportsCoach’s latest principal to join the rapidly expanding network of sports schools.

SportsCoach is a division of the hugely successful Stagecoach Theatre Arts plc and provides an ideal opportunity for kids to get fit, learn new skills and have lots of fun. It is committed to the concept of ‘training for life’ through encouraging and developing youngsters of all abilities in a wide variety of sports activities.

Students have the chance to get involved in a host of individual and team sports for three hours per week. These range from old favourites such as soccer, basketball and netball to more unusual team sports like American football and orienteering. Individual sports include archery, badminton, short tennis, martial arts and fencing (amongst others).

Not only do SportsCoach students benefit physically, they also learn valuable skills for life, such as teamwork, co-operation, self-discipline and an appreciation of how to win and lose.

Opportunities

McDonnell said: ‘SportsCoach is a fantastic way for youngsters to get involved in a wide variety of sporting activities that are fun, interesting, varied, totally involving and above all, good for young people’s well-being.’

She adds: ‘I’m currently head of P.E at a school, have been teaching sport for over 20 years and believe in the ethos of “sport for all”. The main appeal of opening a school is being able to introduce students to the wide spectrum of sports on offer, including the more unusual ones such as fencing and American football, and having the chance to see the advancement in their abilities and personalities as a result of their hard work, the school and its staff.’

SportsCoach operates weekend sports schools during term-time where youngsters work in three age groups with class sizes capped at 16 pupils and currently operates 32 schools across the UK. It runs a strict Child Protection Policy and all staff are checked by the Criminal Records Bureau.
SportsCoach Rickmansworth is being held at the Princess Marina sports centre, The Royal Masonic School, Rickmansworth Park, Rickmansworth, Herts on Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm.
