young teens offered summer adventure
Parents and carers are
being encouraged to take advantage of week-long residential
summer camps funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and managed by
the Youth Hostels Association, which are being offered to
young people this summer.
Over 10,000 young
people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, will get
the chance to access real adventure as part of the exciting
new ‘Do it 4 Real’ scheme.
Climbing, canoeing,
writing, painting and even dancing will be the order of the
day at 23 centres throughout England and Wales for 11-17
year olds living in England.
The good news for
parents and carers is that each break costs just £100 per
person – and an incredible £25 for young people from
low-income families.
The price covers
transport, activities, great food, excellent accommodation
from Sunday to Friday and a large amount of fun. Places are
open to any young person aged 11-17 who normally lives in
England.
The scheme aims to reach
young people from all backgrounds and 40 per cent of places
are intended to engage participants from economically
disadvantaged backgrounds, black and minority ethnic
communities, children of Asylum Seekers, persons at risk of
offending (suitable for 1:8 supervision) and disabled people
(subject to suitable centres being available).
YHA are encouraging
parents to apply to the programme on behalf of their
children. If you are interested call 0870 770 8868 or visit
